Session Report for the 443rd Session

As previous sessions, the session also got started in the presence of cheerful and enthusiastic Smartians. The first activity was reciting the national anthem. Secondly, Coordinator introduced himself with a brief introduction of Smart Club and the Youth Initiative along with the session Norms. Role Takers and other participants were also introduced at the same time. Mr. Manish Khatiwada, one of the Smartians was then requested to take the role of OCA for the session. Now, with the permission from OCA, the session got formally started.

Coordinator then called the PDS for the session Mr. Pranav Kafle for his speech on the topic “Privatization of Waste Management”. He stated that, “Both public and Government are primarily responsible for the waste management but are irresponsible”. He concluded the speech by saying that the private sectors must be given priority in waste management since they are doing quite good. He completed his speech within 4 minutes 44 seconds with 1 repetition of word, 2 unusual pauses, no ah’s and a sound use of grammar. He responded to the questions in a cool way. His manner during the speech was amazing but was suggested to focus more on the matter part by PDS commentator Mr. Sandip Gautam; commentator had some broken sentences, 5 repetitions of words, 1 unusual pause, 6 ah’s and spoke for 2 minutes 30 seconds.

Similarly, SDS Mr. Sanjeev Lamichhine was called for the speech on his topic “Judgment”. His speech was about the irritating self-experience about waiting the bus and getting into the crowded bus. The judgment was of the conductor who showed two contrast behaviors at the same time and what he did was contradictory within him. He spoke for 5 minutes 33 seconds with 6 repetition of words, 3 unusual pauses, and 12 ah’s. The Q&A round went satisfactory but unfortunately he had a lot of grammatical mistakes and broken sentences. He was suggested to make the content more powerful and sensible by SDS commentator Mr. Gokul Ghimire who had 3 repetition of words, no unusual pauses and 13 ah’s with no proper use of conjunction and adjective in his speech. SDS Commentator spoke for 3 minutes 30 seconds.

Now, Impromptu Speaker Ms. Kripa Subba was invited and the topic for her was “Need of Sarcasm in Public Speaking”. In a cheerful mood she started her speech with its merits and demerits. She explained the topic with her self-experience and concluded by saying that she didn’t like sarcasm in public speaking. Her way of eye contact, gesture, coordinating style was praised. She had 7 repetition of words, 3 unusual pauses, 20 ah’s but was grammatically sound and on time. On the other hand, her commentator, Mr. Shreyak Kafle had no repetition of words, no unusual pauses but 32 ah’s and spoke about 2 minutes.

Grammarian for the session Asharya Raja Baral presented the comments on the use of grammar of the speakers within 5 minutes 30 seconds with 3 repetition of words, no unusual pauses and 20 ah’s. Ah counter Ms. Sabyata Neupane presented the ‘ah’ data within 3 minutes 47 seconds and suggested to open mouth but not to say ‘ah’ during the public speech. Time keeper Mr Sandeep Gautam presented the time taken by every participant and made us aware about the importance of time.
OCA Mr. Manish Khatiwada critically analyzed the overall session for 20 minutes providing some criticism and suggestion to all the role takers and participants. He also awarded the PDS Mr. Pranav Kafle as the speaker of the week. Unfortunately there were no observers in this sessions. This was the end of the first session.

Tea Break

In the second session, Dhyakka was played. It was full of fun. After the game we had the guest speaker, Mr. Rajesh Pandey (R.J Radio Kantipur, Public Speaking and Leadership Trainer) who shared his experience of conducting the 33 sessions of public speaking training throughout Nepal. He taught us some of the gestures that can be applied during public speaking. His speech was centered on answering the HOW question in public speaking. He believed in the change in moment and requested all of us to attend his 7 days public speaking session. His speech was truly motivating and interesting. Finally the Session wrapped up by deciding the next session’s Role Takers.
